Let’s have “The Talk”

We all know that the best way to prevent a pressure injury is to get up and be mobile. Proper weight shifts and movement are the best remedy. But if you’ve made it to this website and you’re reading this, that’s not happening. So, let’s have an honest conversation.

We all have aging parents or grandparents that complain daily of how they feel. Most have muscle aches and pains along with joint pain. Not to mention they complain about their feet swelling. Along with low energy and fatigue, they are glued to their beloved recliner.

Most recliners today are of varying sizes and shapes. They probably have many years of TV watching milage on them. This creates an unstable seating surface that’s unpredictable for good outcome measures.

See most medical cushions are required to be used on a flat stable surface. This is to ensure the cushion doesn’t cup the patient and conform to their body. This could create more heat and moisture thus promoting a pressure injury. Its hard to get predictable outcomes on an unpredictable surface.

The AIM cushion is designed with enough flexibility to deal with the “hammocking” effect of a worn-out recliner but still be firm enough to support the patients posture and weight. With our auto-inflating air bladder system supporting two layers of differing density foam, the patient’s weight is comfortably redistributed as much as possible.

Lastly, Behavior. We know that no matter how many times you have discussed and educated your patient on the needs to move and get up to prevent breakdown, you’re not going to change their behavior. That’s the toughest part of this conversation, that’s why you’re here reading this page.

The AIM cushion is here to mitigate the onset of a pressure injury on an unstable surface and try to offer at least a minimal amount of protection that other cushions cannot.
